Forty eight percent of the population in Nicaragua live in poverty, unemployment is 3.8%, and another 46.5% are underemployed
Elementary education is free and compulsory, however, many children in rural areas are unable to attend due to lack of schools and other reasons, only 29 per cent of children complete primary schooling.
One of every three children has some degree of chronic malnutrition
